How it all began

As you’ve noticed, this won’t be your typical “I saw him from across the bar” or “we locked eyes at Trader Joe’s” type of love story. Ours is a little gayer, actually.

We’ve always done things a little out of order—two proposals, an unconventional timeline, and a love story that was in motion long before we even met.

Truthfully, we’ve felt like a family of our own for much longer than the calendar might suggest. But if you want to know how it really felt when we found each other, it was less like a dating app match and more like this:

Let’s Play Guess Who

To get us started, let’s play a game of Guess Who.

These were the actual prompts from our Hinge profiles — who’s is who?

Prompt A: “We are all living, at most, half of a life... There was the life you lived, and then there was the other life, the one that was the things you hadn't chosen.”

Prompt B: “All I ask is that you take me to a Dairy Queen Grill & Chill.”

You probably guessed right.

Matt’s favorite book series is still Magic Treehouse.

But in all seriousness, the first time Matt saw Chris and those book quotes, he took screenshots immediately (albeit confused).

He knew he’d use them when he proposed.

And that he did. But then, so did Chris.

We’ve always done things a little out of order —and looking back, we wouldn’t change a single second of it.

Take our first date, for example. We “went” to a concert, but we were so busy talking Beforehand that we missed almost the entire show.

and haven't really stopped talking since.

That chatter has carried us through the "real life" stuff that seals a fate:

mastering bedtime routines with the kids, improvising the perfect storytime, and Chris gracefully coming to terms with Matt’s... impressive cardboard box collection.

Ours is a story of words —a word for each memory, every unique way we say: “I love you.” A few favorites? Fatherhood, horoscopes , pancakes, stardust, and: “WHISKEYYYYYY!”

Matt also loves to tell people about this one theory he “read” about once – The Butterfly Effect.

One single, tiny action that triggers a massive chain of events, ultimately leading to a destined outcome.

Two people on different timelines, living separate lives, somehow finding each other at the exact right moment, who now get to spend the rest of their lives together.

Somewhere, someplace, at some point in time, a butterfly flapped its wings, setting off a cosmic chain of events that sealed our fate.

Our love story was already in motion – we just didn’t know it yet.

And isn’t that beautiful?

And the rest is history.
